About this property
Casa del Mar was built in the 1920s as a summer retreat for an Andalusian family of artists. Over the decades, it fell into gentle disrepair until we discovered it in 2018 — a whitewashed shell surrounded by wildflowers, with the most extraordinary view we'd ever seen.
We spent two years restoring it with local craftsmen, keeping the original terracotta floors, the hand-forged ironwork, and the thick stone walls that keep the house cool even in August. Everything else has been reimagined for how we actually like to live on holiday: an open kitchen for cooking together, deep sofas for reading, and a pool that seems to spill into the sky.

Three bedrooms, each with its own character. The master suite opens directly onto the pool terrace with floor-to-ceiling glass doors. The second bedroom looks east toward the mountains of Morocco — on clear mornings you can watch the sunrise from bed. The third is a cosy twin room perfect for children or friends.
The heart of the house is the open-plan living and kitchen area. The kitchen is fully equipped for serious cooking — including an outdoor BBQ area where most summer dinners happen. The living room has deep linen sofas, a wood-burning fireplace for cooler evenings, and a curated library of novels, travel books, and local guides.
The infinity pool is the centrepiece — 12 metres long, heated from April to October, with a shallow end for children and a deep end for diving. It sits on the edge of the hillside so you swim toward the horizon, the water seeming to merge with the Strait of Gibraltar below.
The gardens wrap around the house on three sides: bougainvillea climbing the walls, jasmine at the entrance, a lemon grove where you can pick fruit for your gin and tonic. Several shaded terraces offer different moods throughout the day — the east terrace for breakfast, the pool terrace for lunch, and the west terrace for sundowners.
